Chamber’s Economic Development Survey results in

The Narayana Cayman University Medical Centre, Cayman Enterprise City and the development of a new hotel and convention centre received the greatest membership support while the cruise ship berthing facility, relocation/remediation of the George Town Landfill site and the Owen Roberts International Airport renovation and expansion were considered the top three public sector projects according to the results of a recent Chamber membership online poll.

More than 83% of the 85 respondents supported the development of each of these three private sector projects with the proposed East End Seaport (26.5%) and the Oil refinery proposal (10.8%) ranking well behind. 4.8% of the responses did not support any of the proposals.

PUBLIC SECTOR PROJECTS:
The cruise ship berthing facility, relocation/remediation of the George Town landfill site and the Owen Roberts International Airport renovation and runway expansion topped the list of public sector highest priority projects followed by the completion of the new high schools, the East/West arterial road, Spotts cruise landing facilities. The Cayman Brac hurricane shelter and the renovation of the old Government Administration Building were ranked as the lowest
priorities.

PRIVATISATION:
The Turtle Farm, Cayman Airways, the Airports and the Water Authority were ranked as the highest priority services suitable for privatisation.
